Popular social media critic and activist Martins Otse, widely recognized as Verydarkman, has refuted allegations of misappropriated funds within his NGO, asserting that every penny remains intact.
In a video released on Tuesday, the outspoken commentator expressed dismay over Nigerians’ readiness to believe the claims without proper investigation, lamenting the barrage of insults directed at both him and his mother.
Addressing the controversy, he said, “No money is missing, my money is secured. The way people are so excited about bad is really sad. I told my website guy, shut the website, let us use this people catch cruise. Nobody bothered to ask for evidence. They just went with what is being said. I am so happy I did this.”
The debunked allegations trace back to a dramatic announcement Otse made on Friday via Instagram, where he claimed that hackers had breached his organization’s account and siphoned off N180 million.
However, his recent revelation clarified that the entire situation was orchestrated as a test to highlight society’s gullibility.
Otse criticized the public’s eagerness to embrace negative narratives, emphasizing the importance of verifying information before drawing conclusions.
“The excitement people show over falsehood is alarming. This was a deliberate move to show how easily misinformation spreads,” he added.
The incident has since sparked widespread conversations about the ethics of sensational claims and the public’s responsibility to demand evidence before taking sides.
