Former Nigerian international, Emmanuel Amuneke has vied for the Super Eagles coaching job.
Amuneke revealed this while speaking with popular journalist Osazu Obayiwana.
“Yes I did apply to be the next manager,” he said.
The Nigeria Football Federation, declared the position vacant on Friday following the expiration of erstwhile handler, Jose Peseiro’s contract.
The NFF requested interested coaches to apply for the top job and also listed the requirements.
The 53-year-old is one of the leading candidates to take over from Peseiro.
Amunike has an impressive CV just over a decade after switching playing for coaching.
The former Barcelona star has handled the Nigeria U-17 side and Tanzania national team in the past.
Amuneke carved his legacy as a dynamic winger during his playing days.
The former Super Eagles star played a crucial role as Nigeria won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations and famously scored two goals in the final to secure the title.
