No fewer than 951 personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State command to protect critical national assets and worship centres across the state during the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
According to The PUNCH, the state commandant of the NSCDC, Maku Olatunde, stated that it is a move to tighten the “noose around criminals and their henchmen” across the 21 local government areas of the state.
He stated this in Awka on Monday through an operational order issued to all area commanders and divisional officers, heads of formation, and tactical units, instructing them to ensure sufficient security coverage and peaceful conduct of the Sallah celebrations in the state.
He said, “Proactive and robust anti-crime measures, including deployment of tactical and intelligence assets of the command, are already in place to prevent any untoward incidents in and around the state.
“To ensure that Muslims in the state have a hitch-free Eid-el-Fitr celebration, the command has mobilised operatives to cover all nooks and crannies of the state, which include Eid praying grounds, recreational centres, and other public places.
“The essence of this deployment is to ensure that miscreants and disgruntled elements do not take advantage of the occasion to perpetrate criminality.”
The NSCDC boss also urged residents in the state to be vigilant, observe security and safety tips, as well as collaborate with the NSCDC and other security agencies to avert any breach of peace in the interest of the state.
