A child trafficker, identified as Auntie Success, has been remanded for allegedly trafficking four teenage girls in Onitsha, Anambra State.
According to the Nation, this was disclosed by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Ify Obinabo, through her spokesperson, Chidimma Ikeanyionwu, on Sunday.
According to her,the suspect was nabbed by the ministry in conjunction with the State Police Command on her way to Akwa Ibom.
She stated that the victims were rescued two days before Christmas, while the suspect was arraigned before Awka’s Children, Sexual and Gender Based Violence Magistrate Court, where she was denied bail and put to jail detention.
She revealed that the suspect had offered the victims, who were 15, 14, 15 and 13 years old and from Akwa Ibom, jobs in Agbor, Delta state.
According to the commissioner, the victims were also offered jobs selling drinks in a beer bar, but when they arrived, they realized it was prostitution.
The statement reads: “The operation was carried out on Thursday night in conjunction with the Anambra State Police Command after the Women and Social Welfare boss was hinted of the crime.
“Without hesitation, she swung into action with her team and security operatives and made sure the suspect was arraigned in court the following day.”
The commissioner reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensure that human traffickers are not pampered in the state, encouraging residents to constantly report any unusual behavior in their area.
