In a concerted effort to address issues related to pipeline vandalism, cultism, illegal oil refining, kidnapping, and other criminal activities in Bayelsa State, the Nigerian Army has initiated a security operation named ‘Exercise Still Waters III.’
According to The PUNCH, the launch of this operation took place on Tuesday in Otuokpoti, Ogbia Local Government Area of the state, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria.
Governor Douye Diri lauded the military’s endeavor, emphasizing the vital role of security in ensuring good governance.
He welcomed the operation, particularly noting its timing, coinciding with the upcoming Yuletide season and Bayelsa’s preparations for an off-cycle governorship election.
Governor Diri also pledged the full support of the state government to security agencies, underscoring their joint responsibility in maintaining peace in Bayelsa.
“Since assuming office, I have given priority to the security of our people, and this is the essence of good governance. I have ensured that our people sleep with their two eyes closed,” Governor Diri stated, expressing his appreciation for the commitment and sacrifices of the state’s security forces in reducing crime.
The General Officer Commanding 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, provided insight into the objectives of ‘Exercise Still Waters III.’
He highlighted a specific focus on countering negative propaganda in the social media space through cyber warfare capabilities. Major General Abdussalam reaffirmed the troops’ unwavering commitment to ensuring peace and security in Nigeria, emphasizing their readiness to make the ultimate sacrifice.
The inauguration of the operation featured a gunboats display, showcasing the military’s preparedness to tackle any security threat, as well as a free medical outreach for the residents of Otuokpoti.
