Atlético de Madrid have confirmed the acquisition of Clément Lenglet on loan from Barcelona for the upcoming season.
The French defender has extended his contract with Barcelona until the summer of 2027 before completing the move to the Madrid-based club.
In the arrangement, Atlético will assume the majority of Lenglet’s wages, although the loan agreement does not include an option for a permanent transfer next summer.
For Barcelona, this loan deal is a strategic move to alleviate their wage bill, enabling them to register new signing Dani Olmo with LaLiga.
Despite Olmo being listed in the matchday squad for Saturday’s victory over Athletic Club, he was unable to take his place on the bench due to the club’s need to finalize outgoing transfers.
The sale of Mika Faye to Rennes on Sunday was another step in Barcelona’s efforts to balance their finances.
This marks Lenglet’s third loan spell away from Camp Nou, following previous stints in the English Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa.
