Cross River Governor, Ben Ayade, has expressed sorrow over the event that happened at the Bikers Carnival during the ongoing Calabar carnival, resulting in the death of seven people.
He has since cancelled the parade following the development.
The governor announced this in a statement through his special adviser for media, Mr. Christian Ita.
The fifth day of the annual carnival bore the sad incident as a Toyota Camry vehicle lost control and slammed into spectators.
According to the statement, the event-devastated Ayade, ordered security forces to find the evading driver.
The governor further expressed sympathy to the accident victims and their families, ordered a quick investigation to determine how the driver managed to get past security barriers and onto roads that were off-limits to the public.
Ayade pleaded for peace even though he had pledged to make sure the offender was apprehended and prosecuted.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that 29 people were injured in varying degrees and seven people died as a result of the tragedy.
