At least sixteen people have been confirmed dead following a violent bandit raid on Tungan Taura and Tungan Ladan villages in Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday evening, April 6, 2025, when suspected members of the notorious Lakurawa gang launched a coordinated assault on the communities around 6:00 PM.
In a statement issued on Monday, the spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said the assailants arrived in large numbers, heavily armed, and unleashed terror on the villagers.
“They invaded the two communities, rustled an unconfirmed number of cattle, and clashed with residents, resulting in the unfortunate death of sixteen individuals,” Abubakar said.
Condemning the attack, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Bello M. Sani, vowed that the perpetrators would face justice and assured residents of renewed efforts to secure the region.
“We will not relent until Kebbi State is free from the grip of criminal elements. This attack is senseless and will not go unpunished,” Sani declared. “We have mobilized additional tactical units comprising the police, military, civil defence, and local vigilantes to stabilize the area and track down those responsible.”
He emphasized that the police command was fully committed to restoring peace and safeguarding lives and property across the state.
Abubakar further noted that calm has been restored to the affected villages and that a thorough investigation is currently underway.
The command called on residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security operatives as efforts continue to dismantle criminal networks operating in the region.
