Barcelona has announced the signing of Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig on Friday.
The transfer deal is valued at an initial €55 million, $60 million, with an additional €7 million available through performance-related add-ons.
The Spanish forward has committed to a six-year contract with Barcelona, extending until June 2030, and includes a release clause of €500 million.
“I very much want to get started. These days have been intense, but everything happened so fast and I will forever be grateful to Leipzig,” Olmo said during his introduction. “We’re giving it everything we’ve got in this new stage.”
Olmo’s standout performances in Germany caught the attention of Barcelona, who have been pursuing him throughout the summer.
The contract signed by Olmo runs through June 2026, making him the club’s first significant summer acquisition despite LaLiga’s financial constraints.
Barcelona intensified their efforts to secure Olmo last week after encountering difficulties in their pursuit of Athletic Club’s Nico Williams.
Sporting director Deco traveled to Leipzig earlier this week, and negotiations led to a provisional agreement on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old forward then traveled to Barcelona, where the transfer was officially confirmed on Friday.
Olmo is expected to be introduced on Friday before Monday’s friendly match against Monaco at the Olympic Stadium.
Sources indicate that Barcelona’s acquisition of Olmo does not preclude another attempt to sign Williams before the transfer window closes, though pursuing the winger remains challenging.
Olmo began his journey at Barcelona’s La Masia academy after joining from Espanyol in 2007.
He left for Dinamo Zagreb in 2014, seeking more first-team opportunities. After 124 appearances for Dinamo, he moved to Leipzig in 2020, where he won two DFB-Pokals and a DFL-Supercup, including a hat-trick in 2023 final against Bayern Munich.
“A young club, a young player … We grew up, won our first trophies and made history together,” Olmo shared on Instagram, bidding farewell to Leipzig. “Two Cups and the Super Cup are just some of the many unforgettable moments that’ll always stay with me. Thank you RB Leipzig, you’ll forever be in my heart.”
Olmo also shone for Spain, playing a key role in their triumphant European Championship campaign this summer, scoring three goals and providing two assists in six matches.
