Catalan giants, Barcelona have officially revealed their new home kit for the 2024/25 season.
Barcelona announced the release of the new kit in a video shared on its handle with the caption, “Barça’s new kit for the 24/25 season. Inspired by the Club’s legacy, trajectory, and roots.”
The club has released initial images showcasing the design that their players will don as they strive to reclaim the La Liga title from Real Madrid.
The new kit embraces a traditional aesthetic, echoing the design of Barcelona’s original 1899 kit.
Featuring a simple yet classic design with two panels in blue and maroon, the new kit aims to highlight Barcelona’s rich and successful history.
This nod to the past comes as the club celebrates its 125th anniversary, aiming to deepen the connection between current fans and the club’s storied legacy.
Barcelona is celebrating a milestone anniversary by donning a kit inspired by their original half-and-half jerseys, first worn from the club’s founding in 1899 until 1910.
The choice of colours has several proposed origins, but club historians believe the most plausible explanation traces back to Merchant Taylor’s School in Merseyside, England.
This was the alma mater of Arthur Witty, a founding member of FC Barcelona and the club’s president in 1903.
To celebrate their 125th anniversary, FC Barcelona is bringing back the iconic half-and-half shirts for the first time since the 2008-09 season.
That year, a rising coach named Pep Guardiola led a star-studded squad to an unprecedented treble, winning LaLiga, the Copa del Rey, and the Champions League, marking a historic achievement in Spanish football.
Several of those legends feature in the impressive launch video for the 2024-25 home kit, including cameos from Andrés Iniesta and Carles Puyol, though fan favorite Ronaldinho takes center stage.
A similar half-and-half kit was also worn during the club’s centenary season in 1999-2000, when Louis van Gaal coached a star-studded team that included Guardiola, Luis Enrique, and Rivaldo.
The unveiling video by Barcelona starts with Ronaldinho passing a ball to current players, symbolizing a bridge between historical moments and the present.
Among the featured players is Spanish youngster Lamine Yamal, representing the blend of past legends and future stars.
The presentation also emphasizes Catalan culture, with players partaking in various cultural activities.
Robert Lewandowski, Ronald Araujo, and Pau Cubarsi are seen enjoying tomato bread, while Pedri and Fermin Lopez engage in Spanish painting.
Both the men’s and women’s teams will wear this new kit in the upcoming season.
Fans will get their first look at the new design during Barcelona’s pre-season tour in the United States, where they will face Manchester United, Real Madrid, and AC Milan.
