A female commercial driver in Lagos State is demanding justice after she was brutally attacked by a man who allegedly attempted to steal her car battery in broad daylight.
The incident, which has sparked outrage online, occurred near the popular Oriental Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos. A video of the visibly traumatised driver, her face swollen and eyes filled with tears, has been widely shared on social media, drawing sympathy and calls for authorities to take swift action.
Narrating her ordeal, the woman explained that the man had boarded her vehicle under the pretext of being a passenger en route to the Nigerian Law School. She recounted, “He told me he was going to Law School. So I picked him up thinking he was a passenger.”
However, she said she began to grow uneasy after observing his suspicious behaviour through her rear-view mirror. “I noticed he was acting funny. I kept looking at him through the mirror,” she said, her voice quivering as she described the harrowing moment.
Her instincts proved right when the man allegedly turned violent in an attempt to steal her car battery. Details of how the confrontation escalated remain unclear, but the aftermath captured in the video shows the woman in a distressed state, clearly suffering from physical assault.
The case has since drawn attention from advocacy groups and members of the public, many of whom have called on the Lagos State Government and law enforcement agencies to ensure the perpetrator is arrested and brought to justice.
