A Bauchi man identified as Hamza Umar has reportedly set a girl on fire over an allegation of witchcraft.
According to reports, the suspect allegedly poured kerosene on the girl and set her ablaze on the premise that she was sent to kill him.
The 30 years old Umar confessed to have tried to make the girl leave his house but she insisted on burying a charm.
The command’s spokesperson, SP
Ahmed Wakil confirmed the report.
The police said the suspect committed the crime when the victim entered his house in the Rafin Albasa area of the Bauchi metropolis, claiming that she was sent by her older sister to kill the suspect, according to Daily Post.
The police spokesperson explained, “The suspect said he attempted to make the girl leave his house, but he said she insisted that she must bury some charms in the corner of the house.
“The suspect became furious and poured kerosene on her and set her ablaze in his compound, claiming she was a witch.”
He noted that when the information got to the command, a team of detectives rushed to the scene and evacuated the victim to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital Bauchi, for immediate medical attention.
“A discreet Investigation has been instituted to unravel the exact circumstances that led to the situation. The suspect will be charged to court for the established offence upon completion of the investigation,” he said.
He, however, warned that no one has the right to treat a fellow human in such a manner.
