Bayern Munich are intent on retaining winger Leroy Sane as they prepare for the upcoming Bundesliga season, according to information obtained by 90min, despite reported interest from Arsenal.
With Sane’s contract at the Allianz Arena set to expire in 12 months, speculation about his future has intensified, and German media suggest Arsenal may be considering a budget-friendly deal for the 28-year-old.
However, sources have reports revealed that Bayern are not in a hurry to let Sane go.
They aim to keep him for at least another year and are even considering extending his contract.
While Arsenal have shown admiration for Sane, they have yet to take concrete steps towards acquiring him and are currently concentrating on other targets, particularly Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino.
If Arsenal decide to acquire a new winger this summer, they are likely to seek a player who wouldn’t immediately demand a starting role.
Sane, who will turn 29 in January, desires regular playing time, which might lead Arsenal to explore other options.
Sane primarily plays as a right winger, so a move to Arsenal would mean he would need to be content with a backup role to Bukayo Saka in his preferred position.
Nonetheless, the Germany international would still welcome regular minutes in various positions across the forward line.
It’s uncertain whether Sane would agree to join a team with such fierce competition for playing time.
In contrast, Real Sociedad midfielder Merino is reportedly ready to transfer to the Emirates Stadium, despite the plethora of midfield options available to Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal’s midfield already features key starters Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard, along with players like Jorginho, Thomas Partey, and Fabio Vieira vying for minutes in similar roles.
Additionally, Kai Havertz, who ended the season in a more advanced position, can also be utilized in midfield.
Although Arsenal’s progress in the summer transfer window has been gradual, they recently secured their second signing by acquiring center-back Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna.
He joins goalkeeper David Raya, whose loan from Brentford has been made permanent as anticipated.
