Big Brother Naija star, Josephine Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has backed calls for a DNA test at birth in Nigeria, following a series of high-profile paternity fraud cases.
Reacting to the development on Monday, Phyna took to her social media platform, X account, to back music executive Don Jazzy’s recent comment that prioritises DNA testing over traditional naming ceremonies.
Phyna said DNA verification is an essential practice in ensuring parental certainty from the start.
“I support DNA test over the naming ceremony. It’s should be passed that it is compulsory. Immediately after birth, a DNA test should be carried out,” Phyna posted.
Her stance aligns with a growing sentiment among some Nigerians, advocating for a mandatory DNA test policy immediately after childbirth, which could help prevent cases of paternity fraud and establish clear family connections right from a child’s birth.
