The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the death of Reverend Father Faustinus Gundu, a Catholic priest.
Father Gundu served as the Parish Priest of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jootar, situated in the Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
His demise, which occurred under mysterious circumstances, has left the local community in sorrow.
Conflicting accounts of the incident have surfaced. One version of the report suggests that Gundu was struck by lightning and lost his life, while an alternative version claims that he suddenly collapsed and passed away.
The details surrounding his untimely death remain subject to investigation.
Reportedly, Father Gundu was outside during a rain shower, having spread a towel, and had hurried out to retrieve it when a sudden deluge occurred.
Tragically, he was left without assistance during the storm, and it was only later that people became aware of the situation. By the time they reached him, he had already passed away.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident but indicated that the circumstances of his death were not definitively established.
She stated, “I received the report but they alleged thunder. It is until we investigate before that will be concluded.”
