Popular Nigerian crossdresser and social media personality, Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, has taken legal action against Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, accusing him of defamation.
The lawsuit, which seeks ₦1 billion in damages, was announced on Sunday via Bobrisky’s Instagram page.
The suit claims that VeryDarkMan released an AI-generated audio clip falsely alleging Bobrisky’s involvement in illicit relationships with high-profile politicians and law enforcement officials.
According to the legal filing, Bobrisky’s legal team contends that VeryDarkMan has been using the influencer’s name and reputation for personal gain, exploiting his social media presence to generate attention.
The audio clip, which has gone viral on various platforms, allegedly paints Bobrisky in a negative light without offering any proof.
“Our client has informed us that in your quest for social media stardom, you have continued to exploit his name, personality, and social media influence to create media buzz for your personal gains,” reads part of the lawsuit.
The legal representatives further argue that VeryDarkMan’s actions show a blatant disregard for Bobrisky’s mental health and privacy, accusing him of making reckless and unverified claims.
“You have persisted in making reckless and unfounded statements, including hearsay that you cannot prove against our client, disregarding his mental health, general wellbeing, right to privacy, and other fundamental constitutional rights,” the document continues.
Bobrisky’s legal team is demanding that VeryDarkMan retract the AI-generated audio clip, issue a public apology in two national newspapers, and release a video apology on all his social media platforms.
Additionally, they are asking for the immediate cessation of any further defamatory content and the payment of ₦1 billion in damages within 24 hours.
“Our client demands strict proof regarding the authenticity of the said audio recording, affirming that he never had a phone conversation with you or anyone you represent,” the lawsuit states, dismissing the audio as AI-generated and defamatory.
The legal notice also accuses VeryDarkMan of threatening Bobrisky with reputational harm unless money was paid, alleging that the defamation continued even after an initial payment.
The lawsuit concludes with a warning: if VeryDarkMan does not comply with the demands, Bobrisky’s legal team will proceed with court action.
“Take notice: should you fail to take advantage of the alternative dispute resolution mechanism introduced in paragraphs 10 and 11 of this demand notice, we shall seek legal redress in a court of competent jurisdiction immediately without any further notice to you,” the legal document adds.
