In a tragic incident, marauding Boko Haram insurgents have carried out a deadly attack in the Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State, Nigeria.
The attack, which transpired late Saturday afternoon, unfolded in the fields situated between Bulakunkumma and Maiwa villages within the Baram Karowa ward of the local government area.
Reports indicate that 10 farmers lost their lives in this brutal assault, while several others were abducted by the insurgents. There is some discrepancy in the number of abductees, with one source mentioning four and another suggesting up to nine individuals were taken captive.
Additionally, it has been reported that the same group of insurgents successfully extorted a ransom of N4 million from a local businessman in the Zannari ward.
The region remains heavily affected by the activities of Boko Haram, with attacks like these underscoring the ongoing security challenges faced by residents.
“They came roving across farms in search of food and cash,” Bukar told The PUNCH on the phone. “When the farmers said they couldn’t afford the amounts they requested, they killed 10 of them, all men, and went away with four.”
He claimed that the militants killed ten farmers and kidnapped four more to ensure that they did not leave anyone to report their actions to security officers, who could launch a swift manhunt for them.
Mohammed, the second source, however, said, “The insurgents abducted nine farmers when they told them that they didn’t have any cash to give.”
