Brazilian President, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has canceled his planned trip to China due to medical reasons.
According to his press secretary, the President has been diagnosed with bacterial and viral bronchopneumonia caused by influenza A and has begun treatment.
The medical note released by the press secretary stated that although Lula has shown signs of clinical improvement, the Presidential medical service recommended postponing the trip until the viral transmission cycle ends.
“Despite clinical improvement, the medical service of the Presidency of the Republic recommends postponing the trip to China until the viral transmission cycle ends,” the note stated.
The cancellation of the trip has generated some concern among those who were expecting the Brazilian President’s visit. China and Brazil have established a strategic partnership in recent years, with a focus on economic and trade cooperation.
As such, high-level visits like Lula’s have become an important part of the relationship between the two countries.
