Brighton and Nottingham Forest clashed in a thrilling 2-2 draw, marked by three red cards issued to Morgan Gibbs-White, Nuno Espirito Santo, and Fabian Hurzeler.
The dramatic climax came with just seven minutes left, when Gibbs-White, already on a yellow card, executed a risky scissor tackle on Joao Pedro.
Despite initially appearing to win the ball, referee Rob Jones brandished a second yellow card after reviewing the challenge, sending the Forest midfielder off.
The decision sparked chaos on the sidelines, resulting in both Forest manager Nuno and Brighton’s assistant coach Hurzeler being dismissed for their vehement protests.
The incident capped a game that had been tense and unpredictable from the start.
Forest opened the scoring early, capitalizing on a penalty awarded when Callum Hudson-Odoi was brought down. Chris Wood coolly converted from the spot.
Brighton struggled to find their rhythm in the first half but managed to overturn the deficit. Jack Hinshelwood rose highest to nod home an equalizer, and just before the interval, Danny Welbeck curled in a stunning free-kick, the first successful direct free-kick of the Premier League season.
Despite Brighton’s resurgence, Forest refused to be beaten. Substitute Ramon Sosa netted the equalizer, capitalizing on Jota Silva’s perfectly timed run that beat Brighton’s defensive line.
Neither side could find a winner, leaving both teams unbeaten with nine points each as they continue their promising starts to the season.
