The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Tuesday, conferred a posthumous national award on Nigeria’s Ebola heroine, Dr Stella Ameyo Adadevoh.
Adadevoh, who was the lead endocrinologist at a private hospital in Lagos, prevented a Liberian, Patrick Sawyer, who became the Ebola virus index case in Nigeria in 2014, from spreading the virus in the country, thus saving many lives while she herself died of the disease.
The late hero, who died on August 19, 2014, placed the index patient, Patrick Sawyer, a Liberian, who was in the country for an Economic Community of West Africa States programme, in quarantine at the detriment of her own life.
As over 400 Nigerians received national honours on Tuesday, Adadevoh was also honoured with the national award of Officer of the Order of Nigeria (OON) at the 2022 National Honours Awards in Abuja.
At a ceremony conducted at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, Adadevoh was one of 447 notable Nigerians and foreigners who received various national honours.
It was also obtained that the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic title was awarded to six outstanding Nigerians.
