The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.d) is set to travel to Washington on Sunday, December 11, to attend and speak at the United States-Africa Leaders Summit.
According to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the High-Level Meeting is being held at the request of US President Joe Biden, who is looking forward to “working with African governments, civil society, diaspora communities across the United States, and the private sector to continue strengthening our shared vision for the future of US-Africa relations.”
The event is expected to highlight the significance of US-Africa relations and enhanced cooperation on common global concerns, as well as to demonstrate the US’ unwavering commitment to Africa.

According to the statement, Buhari will speak on the first day about conservation, climate adaptation, and a just energy transition, focusing specifically on the “Just Energy Transition” component.
He will also speak on some of the Summit’s other sub-themes and participate in the US-Africa Business Forum (USABF), which is hosted by the US Department of Commerce and focuses on increased trade and investment between the US and African nations.
The Corporate Council of Africa will host a Nigerian delegation to a US-Nigeria Business and Investment Forum Business Roundtable on the sidelines of the Summit, during which Nigerian organisations and businesses are expected to sign agreements with their American counterparts.
President Buhari is expected to return to the country on Sunday, December 18, accompanied by Governors Bala Mohammed and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Bauchi and Kwara States, as well as Ministers and other top government officials.
