The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has reassured that no candidate will be required to take the board’s examination outside of their registered state.
In a recent phone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Abuja, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, provided clarification regarding candidates who participated in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination outside their state of registration and residence.
He explained that these candidates were assigned to the nearest mock centres available to them.
He emphasized that the mock examination was held in select centres, as not all Computer Based Test centres were equipped to facilitate the mock exam.
However, he assured that for the main examination, all registered centres would be operational.
“If the mock centres in Abuja were full and there were available centres in Nassarawa State, candidates would be directed there,” he said. “This situation is unlikely to occur in the main examination, as more centres will be involved in conducting the test, ensuring that no candidate will be sent outside their state of residence.”
Benjamin further explained that the proximity of a candidate’s examination centre is influenced by the timing of their registration. If a nearby centre is already full, the candidate may be assigned to an alternative available centre within their state.
Earlier, Benjamin had issued a statement on Sunday, acknowledging the delays and challenges some candidates faced during the mock examination.
He expressed regret over the inconveniences caused, attributing these issues to new features introduced to improve the conduct of the main UTME.
“The mock examination serves as a trial run for the UTME, allowing the board to test new innovations and providing candidates with an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the CBT environment,” he noted. “This initiative has consistently met its objectives, addressing identified gaps and helping candidates gain valuable experience for the main examination.”
He concluded by urging all candidates to continue making the necessary adjustments to ensure a smoother examination experience that ultimately benefits them.
The 2025 UTME is scheduled to commence on April 25.
