Barcelona’s quest for a fifth consecutive win in LaLiga was halted as they squandered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Celta Vigo at the Estadio Abanca-Balaidos,
This draw marks their second consecutive match without a win.
The match seemed to be going Barcelona’s way as they held a comfortable two-goal lead.
Raphinha opened the scoring in the 15th minute, cutting inside before calmly slotting the ball home. Lewandowski then doubled the advantage in the 61st minute, scoring his 15th league goal of the season with a simple tap-in following a well-timed pass.
But the narrative shifted in the 82nd minute when Barcelona’s Marc Casado received a second yellow card, leaving his team with just 10 men on the field.
The numerical disadvantage allowed Celta Vigo to ramp up the pressure, which soon bore fruit.
In the 84th minute, substitute Alfonso Gonzalez capitalized on a defensive error by Jules Kounde, converting the loose ball to pull one back for Celta.
Just two minutes later, the comeback was complete. Hugo Alvarez fired a powerful shot past Barcelona goalkeeper Inaki Pena, securing an unexpected draw for the home side and leaving Barcelona stunned.
Despite the late drama, Barcelona still leads LaLiga with 34 points, five ahead of second-placed Atletico Madrid and seven points clear of third-placed Real Madrid, although Los Blancos have two games in hand.
The draw ended Barcelona’s long streak of victories, having previously gone 24 matches in LaLiga without a draw, with 20 wins and four losses.
They were hoping to match their longest streak without a draw in LaLiga history, which stood at 25 matches between February and October 2017, 23 wins and two draws.
However, after their shock loss to Real Sociedad just before the international break, this unexpected setback against Celta Vigo has left them with back-to-back dropped points.
Barcelona, led by coach Hansi Flick, will now look to recover as they head into the next set of fixtures, with their grip on the league still intact but under greater pressure than before.
