Award-winning Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie will be the guest of honor at the Creative Africa Nexus Weekend 2022, where she will discuss her experiences as a creative writer.
The internationally recognized novelist, who was recently awarded Harvard University’s prestigious W.E.B. Du Bois Medal, will participate in a fireside chat titled When Giants Speak.
According to Daily Post, She will be interviewed by the publisher of the Nigeria editions of her books, Dr Eghosa Imasuen, on 26th November 2022, in “a conversation that will focus on her journey within the Creative Writing space, what it took to get to where she is and what more she looks forward to.”
“My session with Ms Adichie will provide writers, editors and all those seeking careers in the creative writing space with insight into her personal journey and how any of them can contribute to changing African narratives,” Dr Imasuen added.
It was also gathered that Chimamanda Publishers, Narrative Landscape Press, and the Society of Book and Magazine Editors, in collaboration with the Society of Book and Magazine Editors, and the Jalada Africa Collective, will host a creative writing masterclass at the CANEX WKND 2022, scheduled for November 25-27, 2022 in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.
The masterclass workshops, which will be led by seasoned facilitators in the creative writing business such as Ms Anwuli Ojogwu, Ms Edwige Dro, and Ms Wanjeru Gakuru, will cover a wide range of themes.
According to the masterclass session schedule, attendees will learn about the elements of creative writing, the best support networks for writers to avoid burnout, and how authors can revise their works.
During the masterclass session, the complexities of legal agreements and contract rules, as well as prices for freelancing work, reading a royalty report, and other accounting concerns, will all be taught.
The CANEX 2022 Creative Writing Masterclass will also cover how to negotiate with agencies, scouts, and publishers. Other topics covered in the masterclass session include branding and selling oneself, as well as seeking management and representation.
CANEX WKND 2022 will be a three-day meeting of African and diaspora creatives preceding the next Creative Africa Nexus Summit at IATF2023.
