The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has called on Nigerian Army personnel to take ownership of their duties, uphold professionalism, and actively contribute to advancing the military’s capabilities.
During his maiden operational visit to Headquarters 1 Division in Kaduna on Wednesday, Oluyede emphasized his commitment to empathetic leadership, improved welfare, and enhanced operational efficiency.
The visit is part of his ongoing tour of military formations and units across the country.
In a statement by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, the COAS assured troops that their welfare remains a top priority, with measures in place to address challenges such as accommodation.
“I urge you to take full ownership of your responsibilities, maintain professionalism, and strive for the continuous improvement of the Nigerian Army,” Oluyede said while addressing officers and soldiers.
He further outlined plans to ensure every soldier has access to adequate housing, promising that accommodation issues would be resolved. Additionally, he stressed the importance of rigorous training to maintain a combat-ready and result-oriented military force.
On arrival, the COAS was welcomed with a ceremonial quarter guard and briefed on the operational activities of 1 Division by Major General Mayirenso Saraso, the General Officer Commanding.
As part of his visit, Oluyede commissioned several welfare projects, including a newly built Officers’ Mess Annex at Dallet Barracks and remodeled housing units for soldiers at Kotoko Barracks, Ribadu Cantonment. Each block features 30 housing units aimed at improving the living standards of personnel.
Expressing appreciation for the COAS’s visit, the GOC pledged the unwavering loyalty and dedication of the Division’s troops.
“Your visit underscores your dedication to the well-being and professional growth of the Nigerian Army. We are committed to upholding our duties with excellence,” Saraso said.
