A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki to explain why he has delayed or refused to swear in eight Judges-designate of the Edo State High Court.
According to The PUNCH, the National Judicial Council had since June 2023 recommended eight judges for appointment to the Edo State High Court.
However, the judges have yet to be sowrn-in by the state governor.
While registering displeasure with the situation, one Adaze Emwanta dragged the Governor of Edo State, the state Attorney General and the National Judicial Council to court in a suit marked FHC/ABJ/1634/2023.
Ruling on the matter, the presiding judge, Justice O. A. Egwuatu ordered the governor to show cause why the reliefs of the applicant should not be granted.
