The Al Nassr forward and global football icon, Cristiano Ronaldo, has finally addressed the ongoing speculation about his retirement, emphasizing that he plans to keep his decision under wraps until the moment arrives.
In an interview with the Portuguese channel NOW, the 39-year-old made it clear that when he eventually steps away from international football, the announcement will come as a surprise.
“When I leave the national team, I will not tell anyone; it will be a very spontaneous decision on my part,” Ronaldo declared, putting to rest any notions that he would give advance notice of his retirement.
The remarks from Ronaldo come at a time when his future in football has been a hot topic, especially following Portugal’s exit from the UEFA Euros at the quarter-final stage.
Despite this, the former Real Madrid ace remains committed to contributing to his country’s success, particularly as they prepare for the upcoming Nations League fixtures under the guidance of coach Roberto Martinez.
“What I want now is to be able to help the national team,” Ronaldo continued, signaling his intention to remain a key player for Portugal in the near future.
Additionally, Ronaldo addressed the possibility of transitioning into a coaching role after his playing days are over, a prospect that many of his fans and football pundits have speculated about.
However, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner was quick to shut down these rumors.
“At the moment, I’m not thinking about being a coach of the first team or any team. It doesn’t even cross my mind, I’ve never thought about it,” he clarified, indicating that his future plans lie outside the realm of football management. “I don’t see my future going through that.”
Ronaldo’s words reflect a player still deeply engaged in his football career, as evidenced by his recent performances.
This season, he has already found the back of the net three times in his last three appearances for Al Nassr, showing that he still has much to offer on the pitch.
