Guiness World Record have disassociated itself from a Nigerian man, Tembu Ebere who went partially blind for attempting to break a record for the longest crying Marathon by an individual.
Ebere, who has a Cameroonian heritage, attempted to break a Guinness World Record for crying for seven days, non-stop.
The Guinness World Records however said on its official Twitter handle that there is no way they would be able to monitor such record.
It wrote “Just to quell some recent rumours, we wouldn’t ever monitor a record for the longest marathon crying.
“Here’s what can be monitored by our team,” the body wrote.”
Ebere, in an interview published on BBC on Sunday, claimed that he went partially blind for 45 minutes while attempting the challenge.
Ebere said he had to reevaluate his approach and reduce the intensity of his wailing as it was causing him headaches.
Ebere also confirmed that he did not apply to GWR and that his attempt would not be official.
Ebere was among the ‘many’ Nigerians who caught the GWR fever following Hilda Bassey’s cook-a-thon record, where she initially cooked for 100 hours, but was officially recorded as 93 hours and 11 minutes by the body.
