As the Cherubim and Seraphim Church Worldwide prepares for its centenary celebration, the Church has issued a firm warning to prophets within its ranks to cease performing rituals for youths engaged in internet fraud, commonly known as “Yahoo Yahoo.”
Speaking during a pre-centenary revival held in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Monday, Chairman of the C&S Unification in Osun State, Senior Apostle Samuel Onigbinde, emphasized the need to eradicate questionable practices from the Church.
He pointed out that the Unification, which brings together various factions of the C&S Orimolade movement, was formed to restore the original doctrine of Prophet Moses Orimolade, the Church’s revered founder.
Apostle Onigbinde expressed deep concern about certain individuals within the Church who, under the guise of being prophets, perform ritualistic prayers for those involved in fraudulent activities.
He stressed that the true teachings of Prophet Moses Orimolade center on spiritual healing through divine intervention, fasting, and prayer, rather than conjuring spirits for material gain.
He further elaborated, “One of the essence of the Unification among the Church is to fight strange practices among members. C&S is not for Yahoo boys. Those prophets hiding under the white garment to perpetrate such evils must stop. A committee is already in place to ensure everyone conforms with the teachings of Prophet Moses Orimolade of blessed memory.”
In a related address, Pastor Olusegun Elijah, the convener of the pre-centenary revival, voiced his concerns about the alarming proliferation of churches across Nigeria.
He attributed this trend to widespread unemployment, noting that many individuals resort to founding churches as a means of livelihood, rather than fulfilling the sacred duty of spiritual salvation.
He pointed out that the nation’s rising crime rate is partly due to the failure of these religious institutions to offer genuine spiritual guidance, stating, “The joblessness in Nigeria has made many people turn their ability to the Church. It is also unfortunate that Clerics have been romancing the political class and can no longer hold them accountable for their actions and inactions in government. The increase in crime rate despite the proliferation of religious centres is a result of the failure of religious leaders.”
Elijah also urged religious leaders to maintain their moral duty to society by avoiding close relationships with politicians, which, he argued, prevents them from holding public officials accountable.
He called on clerics to refocus their attention on salvation and guiding the faithful, remarking, “I call on our leaders to stop fraternising with politicians to hold them accountable while in public offices.”
The Cherubim and Seraphim Church’s leadership is determined to use the upcoming centenary as a turning point to reinforce the Church’s original mission and to curb unethical practices that have found their way into its ranks.
