Aladja community in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State has lamented that fishermen can no longer fish along the Warri River due to the negative impact of oil bunkering in neighbouring communities.
This was made known by Comrade Oro Ivwrigheghweta who spoke on behalf of the Agrarian community.
Ivwrigheghweta explained that the activities of oil bunkerers had led to the death of fishes in the river and that this had negative effects on fishermen.
“This is because their activities have impacted negatively on the environment.
“The fishermen are lamenting that there are no more fishes in the river like before.”
Comrade Ivwrigheghweta called on the government to be proactive in fighting crime, especially crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region.
He also admonished security agencies to stop taking bribe from those doing the illicit business.
