Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has pledged his administration’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the security of lives and property across the state.
He called on residents to continue supporting the government through prayers as it addresses various challenges.
According to The PUNCH, Oborevwori speaking at a meeting with the State Executive of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria led by Chairman Kingsley Enakhireri, at the Government House in Asaba on Wednesday, emphasized that ensuring security remains the primary duty of the government.
He cited Section 14 (2b) of the 1999 Constitution, which outlines the government’s responsibility for the security and welfare of its people.
“We are doing our best to address security concerns,” Oborevwori stated. “This is just a phase, and it will pass. We urge Deltans to continue praying for us as we serve the people.”
The governor expressed gratitude to the PFN for its role during a period of national protest, noting the state’s peaceful atmosphere despite expectations of violence similar to the #EndSARS protests.
He attributed the calm to the concerted efforts of faith leaders and the community’s resolve to avoid crisis.
Oborevwori also highlighted the understanding and restraint shown by Civil Society Organisations and other groups, who chose not to protest to prevent potential hijacking of their movements.
He remarked, “Some people commenting on these issues are not even residing in the state and are unaware of the actual situation.”
In response, Enakhireri reaffirmed the PFN’s strong support for Oborevwori’s administration, praising the governor’s wisdom in managing state affairs and ensuring peace during challenging times.
