The Delta State Government has successfully paid over N130 billion out of its N465 billion debt, significantly reducing the state’s debt profile.
According to The PUNCH, this was disclosed by the Executive Assistant (New Media) to the Delta State governor, Mr. Felix Ofu during a press briefing in Asaba.
“This administration inherited a debt of N465 billion. By March 2024, the government led by Sheriff Oborevwori had managed to pay off more than N130 billion,” Ofu stated. “Governor Oborevwori understands that accumulated debt burdens not only the current population but also future generations.”
Ofu highlighted that through prudent financial management, the Oborevwori administration has saved over N205 billion, a first since the creation of Delta State.
He also emphasized that since taking office on May 29, 2023, the Oborevwori government has not taken on any new debt, addressing public concerns about the state’s financial inflows.
The administration has reportedly utilized these funds for various state projects, countering accusations of financial mismanagement.
Mr. Nobert Chiazor, the Executive Assistant (Media) to the governor, praised the N78 billion contract with Julius Berger as transformative for the Warri area.
He insisted that Oborevwori’s government is committed to transparency and openness.
