Delta State has been given the honor of hosting the seventh iteration of the National Youth Games by the Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development.
According to a press release from , Director, Press, and Public Relations, of the sports ministry, Mohammed Manga, the decision to choose Delta as hosts was made at a meeting of the stakeholders for the Games that took place alongside the recently concluded 21st National Sports Festival, which was also hosted by Delta state.
As agreed upon by all parties at a virtual meeting that took place on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, the State has also stated its preparedness to host the Games from February 8–18, 2023.
The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development,Ismaila Abubakar, claimed that since its start, the National Youth Games have developed into a true arena for cultivating the enormous talents that are present throughout the nation.
“Many of the discovered athletes have been nurtured to elite level by the Ministry where several of them have been excelling at the international stage by posting podium performances for the country,” Abubakar said.
”Other objectives of the Games is to promote National Unity; curb age cheating in Sports and Youth restiveness as well as establish a standard programme for athletes’ succession.”
Ismaila gave the assurance that the Ministry is ready to see that the benefits and goals of the Youth Games are maintained, which is why the Ministry is determined to look for a different host location for the National Youth Games.
