Actor, Akah Nnani, has revealed how he had to pray very hard in order to pull off the role of Samuel Obalolo in the movie, Man of God.
In one of the first scenes in the movie, he acted as the afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
However, despite praying before pulling off the iconic Fela, dubbed Afrobeat pioneer, Akah revealed that he would like to plat demonic roles.
He The Punch, “It (the role) stretched my creativity in ways that I did not envisage. I did not have an idea of how hard it would be to ‘pull off’ acting as Fela. I did a couple of tricks to pull that off and that’s what we started with. The first sequence of shoots were the Fela scenes. A lot of prayer went into it as well.
“All the opinions about the movie are valid and welcomed but they do not take away from the fact that it was a good movie with a good storyline. Everybody has a right to their opinions. I also think it was a huge leap forward in the kind of stories we tell. Bolanle Austen-Peters (producer of the movie) comes from a theatre background where one line could mean a lot. One’s mind has to keep working.”
The actor also maintained that he rarely gets advances from female fans. He said, “I don’t enjoy a lot of advances from female fans and I think it’s because people can see through the fact that I’m totally closed to such things. People also know the Akah and Claire (his wife) story. Over the years, I have tried to stay consistent and faithful to my marriage, and people respect that.”
Nnani, who recently complained about how security operatives harassed him on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos, said the post generated a lot of reactions. He added, “Since I made that complaint, the video went viral and a lot of blogs reposted it. I think some highly placed officials in the police force saw it and decided to act on it.
“As of now, those (police)men have been taken away from that location. That is a good thing, but it is not just about removing them, we have to make sure something like that does not happen at any other location. Nigerians need to feel safe.”
On the role he will like to play but has not had the opportunity yet, the actor said, “I will like to play a demonic character like Lord Voldemort in Harry Potter. That would be fun.”
