Pascal Dozie, the founder of the now-defunct Diamond Bank Plc and former chairman of MTN Nigeria, has passed away at the age of 85.
According to a statement from his family, Dozie died on Monday, leaving behind a legacy of significant contributions to Nigeria’s banking and telecommunications sectors.
Born on April 9, 1939, in a Catholic family with his father, Charles Dozie, serving as a catechist, Pascal Dozie’s early education was rooted in his community.
He attended Our Lady’s School Emekuku, the Holy Ghost Juniorate Seminary, and Holy Ghost College in Owerri, where he completed his West African Senior School Certificate Examination.
Dozie later moved to the United Kingdom for higher education, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the London School of Economics.
He also studied Operational Research and Industrial Engineering before obtaining a Master’s degree in Administrative Science from City University, London.
Dozie’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to found Diamond Bank, a financial institution that later merged with Access Bank, solidifying his legacy in Nigeria’s banking landscape.
Additionally, his leadership as chairman of MTN Nigeria played a crucial role in the company’s growth and expansion.
His influence and contributions to the country’s economic development earned him immense respect within the business community. Dozie is survived by his wife, Chinyere, and five children.
