Borussia Dortmund delivered a commanding 4-1 victory over Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday, moving into eighth place in their pursuit of a top-four finish and a Champions League spot for next season.
With just six matches remaining, the Ruhr valley club is in the race for European glory.
Dortmund, who are set to face Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals next week, broke the deadlock in the 34th minute with Karim Adeyemi’s opener. They turned on the style in the second half, adding three more goals.
Carney Chukwuemeka’s shot, which deflected in the 51st minute, doubled their lead to 2-0. Seventeen minutes later, Serhou Guirassy scored with a simple tap-in to make it 3-0. Jamie Gittens sealed the dominant display with a header that made it 4-0.
Freiburg managed to grab a late consolation goal in the 88th minute through Maximilian Eggestein, but Dortmund’s performance left them with 41 points.
With Mainz 05 currently occupying fourth place with 46 points, it remains the final spot for automatic Champions League qualification next season.
