President of Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau has expressed confidence that the Super Eagles will win 2023 African Cup of Nations that will be hosted by Cote D’Ivoire in January 2024.
Gusau disclosed n a video shared by NFF Tv., adding that Nigeria’s national team would get a befitting campsite and adequate preparations for the AFCON.
Gusau, who was addressing the Super Eagles ahead of the friendly game with Saudi Arabia played Friday, noted that the Eagles are going to the AFCON to win the tournament for a fourth time and that the NFF would provide the enabling environment for the team to achieve its objective.
The NFF boss explained that with adequate build up to the AFCON Eagles won’t have problem qualifying from Group A of the tournament which has hosts, Cote ‘d’ Ivoire, Guinea Bissau and Equatorial Guinea and that the football house had provided the two friendly games to keep the team busy for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and the AFCON.
He disclosed that the NFF planned the two friendly games for the Eagles in the current FIFA window because the team may not have the chance for such friendly games with the Qualifiers for the World Cup coming up next month and the AFCON to follow next early January.
“We all know the AFCON will commence in January but the major point is that we are going there with the resolve to win the fourth AFCON title,” Gusau said.
“We have seen the group we shall be playing at AFCON. We know we are going to be up against the hosts, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea Bissau. With good preparations we shouldn’t have problem Qualifying from the group.
“We want the players to be mentally and psychologically ready for the World Cup Qualifiers and the AFCON. The NFF had to negotiate for the friendly game with Mozambique at the last minute because of our World Cup Qualifiers. Lesotho, Zimbabwe and South Africa are all from the same axis with Mozambique and we believe playing against them will give us some inkling about how our World Cup Qualifying opponents play.” NFF president added.
