Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has suspended two state commissioners; the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Moses Ekuma, and the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Francis Ori.
The suspension was confirmed during the State Executive Council meeting in Abakaliki, the state capital, on Monday.
A statement from the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor, shared on Tuesday, stated, “Following cases of gross misconduct and dereliction of duties by some government officials and matters related thereto, the Chairman of Council directed the indefinite suspension of the Honourable Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development and three months suspension of the Honourable Commissioner for Health respectively.”
The suspensions are believed to be linked to an incident at the Ministry of Health, where six officials were caught allegedly stealing government property.
Nwifuru visited the ministry on Saturday night and ordered the officials’ arrest and prosecution.
Additionally, the suspension of the Housing Commissioner is thought to stem from his poor management of the Amaeze Housing Scheme in Ishielu Local Government Area and his underperformance in the role.
