Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has acknowledged ongoing uncertainty regarding his future with the Premier League champions amidst speculation linking him to the Saudi Pro League.
Since his arrival at the Etihad Stadium in 2017, the Brazilian has been instrumental in Manchester City’s success, securing six Premier League titles under Pep Guardiola’s leadership.
Having spent seven seasons with City, Ederson has garnered interest from numerous elite clubs, including those in the Saudi Pro League.
Following his captaincy during a pre-season defeat to Milan, he shared an update on his situation.
“There isn’t a definitive yet,” Ederson stated to TNT Brasil at Yankee Stadium. “It’s now my eighth season with him [Guardiola], living many good moments, also some bad ones. He’s a guy who is easy to work with, he’s a football genius and everyone knows that. I’m happy here, having a good moment with my teammates. I’m enjoying as well to get my fitness back on track. I’m very calm, whatever happens is in God’s hands.”
After City’s 4-3 pre-season loss to Celtic on Wednesday, Guardiola expressed his wish for Ederson to stay, though he admitted the goalkeeper might have ‘options’ to explore.
In City’s recent 3-2 defeat to Milan, Ederson captained the side and played for 81 minutes, before being substituted by 38-year-old Scott Carson.
Despite his efforts, he couldn’t prevent goals from Lorenzo Colombo and Marco Nasti. Stefan Ortega is another goalkeeper available to Guardiola.
City’s next pre-season match will be against Barcelona at the Camping World Stadium in Florida, with the team yet to secure a win in their pre-season campaign.
