The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Akwa Ibom State command, has apprehended two people suspected of engaging in illegal forex trading.
The EFCC announced this development on its official Twitter handle on Friday, stating that the arrest was made based on credible intelligence regarding their illegal foreign exchange activities.
It note the duo, Surajo Umar and Muhammed Sadiq Lawal were arrested at Udi Street in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, for selling dollars without the required licenses.
The anti-graft agency said that Umar and Lawal will face charges in court once investigations are complete.
“Operatives of the Uyo Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, on Friday, May 10, 2024, arrested two suspected illegal forex traders, Surajo Umar and Muhammed Sadiq Lawal
“They were arrested at Udi Street in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State while selling dollars without appropriate licences.
“Their arrest followed credible intelligence available to the EFCC on their suspected involvement in illegal foreign exchange transactions.
“They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” EFCC said.
