The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has granted bail to controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, following his dramatic arrest at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
According to The PUNCH, Okuneye, who was reportedly on his way to board an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight for a connecting trip to London, was detained late Thursday night, sparking widespread attention on social media.
Bobrisky immediately took to social media, informing his followers of the incident and alleging he sustained injuries during the arrest.
“Nigerians, help me, EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured,” he wrote, seeking support from his fans.
Following his detainment, he was transported to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, where he faced questioning over claims he had previously made about bribing commission officials.
The controversy began after a voice recording surfaced in which a critic, Martins Otse, known online as VeryDarkMan, claimed Bobrisky had allegedly admitted to paying N15 million to EFCC officers to drop charges of money laundering against him.
By Friday night, Bobrisky had secured his release on bail, confirmed by the EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, who refrained from providing additional details.
A source close to the investigation revealed that Bobrisky denied all allegations of bribery in his statement at the EFCC headquarters, even challenging the authenticity of the voice recording.
“He denied everything about releasing money to any official as a bribe to drop the money laundering charges against him. He denied it in his statement. He said the fellow who posted the voice note should come over to justify it. He said nobody requested money from him in the EFCC and he didn’t give anyone anything,” the source explained.
This latest encounter with authorities adds to the ongoing controversies surrounding Bobrisky, leaving both his followers and critics waiting to see how the claims will unfold.
