Super Eagles head coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has expressed confidence in his team’s current form as they prepare for Tuesday’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Rwanda’s Amavubi at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.
Speaking to the Nigeria Football Federation media team following the squad’s arrival in Kigali, Eguavoen shared, “We have the right mentality now, and the mood in camp is excellent. Everyone in camp is eager for us to pick up the three points in Rwanda and stay firmly on top of the qualifying table. We are here for business and I am happy that everyone is on the same page.
“I am also happy that we have arrived here in good time, and the players can rest well while we look forward to the official training on Monday afternoon.”
The Nigerian team, consisting of 23 players and officials, departed from the Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo at 12:48 p.m. on Sunday, flying aboard a ValueJet Airline Regional Jet 900.
They touched down at the Kigali International Airport at 5:20 p.m. local time, which is one hour ahead of Nigeria.
The delegation was led by the NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, and included NFF 1st Vice President Felix Anyansi-Agwu, several Executive Committee Members, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, as well as NFF staff, stakeholders, and media personnel.
Team captain William Ekong emphasized the team’s determination ahead of the match, “There is nothing much to say other than that we are here for a purpose. Our target is the three points, and we have spoken among ourselves on the imperative of going hard for it from the first blast of the referee’s whistle.
“It is going to be a tough game because Rwanda have a good team and got a point from their first match. We must not relent throughout the 90 minutes.”
The Amavubi secured a 1-1 draw against Libya’s Mediterranean Knights in Tripoli in their Matchday 1 fixture.
Kickoff for Tuesday’s match is set for 3 p.m. Rwanda time (2 p.m. Nigeria time).
