Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Capital Territory Command, has deployed 4,000 officers to safeguard lives, properties, and critical infrastructure across the territory in preparation for the upcoming Eid-Fitr celebrations,
Commandant Olusola Odumosu ordered the large-scale deployment to ensure residents can celebrate in a secure environment.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Monica Ojobi, the security operation covers all areas within the FCT and will remain in effect before, during, and after the festivities.
“The Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Capital Territory Command, Olusola Odumosu, has ordered the deployment of 4000 Personnel across the nooks and crannies of the FCT ahead of the Eid-Fitr Celebrations.
“The deployment is in a bid to ensure security of lives and property as well as Critical National Assets and Infrastructure in the FCT and its environs before, during and after the celebration,” Ojobi stated in a press release on Thursday.
The personnel include operatives from specialized units such as the Female Strike Force, Arms Squad, Operation Adkasu, Counter-Terrorism, and the Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Explosives team.
Their assignments focus on securing key locations, including prayer grounds, shopping malls, markets, entertainment centers, and government facilities.
Additionally, security will be tightened around motor parks, amusement parks, and diplomatic premises to prevent potential threats.
Undercover units are already conducting surveillance and monitoring high-risk areas, including abandoned buildings known to harbor criminal activities.
Commandant Odumosu has directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to remain vigilant and ensure their teams execute their duties effectively.
“All hands must be on deck, I will not tolerate any form of breeches, ensure you deploy your personnel adequately,” he emphasized.
To prevent any disruptions, officers have been tasked with maintaining a visible presence throughout the celebrations.
The Commandant also stressed the importance of inter-agency collaboration, urging personnel to uphold discipline, respect citizens’ rights, and facilitate a peaceful environment.
He called on residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activities, assuring the public that the NSCDC is fully prepared to respond to any security threats.
Odumosu further warned criminals against targeting critical infrastructure, stating that covert officers are closely monitoring the city and will act swiftly against any offenders.
