A Magistrate Court in Ekiti State has granted bail to Dele Farotimi, who is facing a defamation lawsuit brought by legal luminary Afe Babalola.
The bail, set at N50 million, requires a surety of the same amount and ownership of landed property.
The case, which has drawn significant public attention, is scheduled to continue on January 29, 2025.
Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, confirmed the bail conditions in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
“Dele Farotimi was granted bail of N50 million naira with a surety possessing landed property. The matter has been adjourned to January 29, 2025,” Sowore wrote.
Farotimi’s legal battle stems from allegations of defamation against Afe Babalola, a highly respected lawyer and founder of Afe Babalola University.
