A 40 years old woman, Funmilayo Aduloju, has been arraigned by the Ekiti State Police Command before an Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly biting a fellow lady and injuring her in the process.
The defendant was forced to appear in court on a single count of assault.
The state’s police prosecutor,Inspector Johnson Okunade, testified that the crime was perpetrated by the defendant on July 12 at 8:30 p.m. in the Ekute neighbourhood of Ado Ekiti, the state capital.
“The defendant assaulted one Adetutu Abegunde, by biting her with teeth on her left eye while fighting, which inflicted serious injury on her.
“The offence contravened Section 185 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State 2021,” he said.
Okunade requested a postponement so that he could review the case file and round up his witnesses.
However, she entered a not guilty plea to the charge brought against her, and her attorney, Mr. Opeyemi Esan, pleaded with the court to release her on bail, saying that his client would not abscond.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr. A.O. Adeosun, ruled that the defendant should be released on bail in the amount of N100,000 with one surety in the same amount.
The chief magistrate has set August 3 as the new court date for the case.
