Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday urged members of the House of Representatives to allow state governors have inputs in the Electricity Bill 2022.
He stated this at the official handover ceremony of the Lagos State Integrated Resource Plan in conjunction with USAID and Power Africa Initiative as part of Nigeria Power sector programme.
Sanwo-Olu also urged the House of Representatives to work with local governments and the private sector to iron out the bill’s thorny problems.
“There has been some form of privatisation but we still need a lot more. There is a bill that is currently with the National Assembly, specifically in the House of Representatives that we need to make a big case about. We want our input in the bill. We want the members of the House of Representatives to call sub-national; states so that we can have proper input into the bill and finally unbundle all of the bottlenecks in the power sector. He said.
Sanwo-Olu also revealed that the initiative was a 20-year partnership that would transform Africa’s power deficiencies, while noting that a technical report identifying stakeholders would be analyzed and worked on to bring about the desired change in people’s lives.
