The Emir of Nafada in Gombe State, Alhaji Muhammadu Hamza, has lauded the support provided by the state government to wheat growers in his emirate during the 2021 dry season.
On Tuesday, Governor Inuwa Yahaya and his campaign staff paid him a courtesy call at his palace to ask for prayers for his reelection campaign. Hamza then gave the compliment.
The state government helped no less than 200 wheat growers in his emirate during the dry season of 2021–2022, according to the royal father. He emphasized that this empowered the farmers.
He stated that due to the difficulties involved, such as the floods that occur with the rainy season and destroy farms, the dry season is the most beneficial for farmers in his area.
According to the Emir, 500 farmers have expressed interest in cultivating the crop during the 2022–2023 dry season farming because dry season farming has been successful in his domain.
In an effort to strengthen food security and give farmers more leverage, Hamza pleaded with the governor to provide inputs to farmers who had expressed interest in growing wheat during the dry season.
Additionally, he appealed with the governor to assist his emirate in addressing the issue of insecurity, including kidnapping, which he said had increased.
“Our youths are helping to address the challenge of kidnapping by intercepting them and handing them over to security agencies.
`We want the government to help train our youths so they can properly assist the security agencies tackle kidnapping in our emirate,” the emir said.
Yahaya had previously indicated that he had gone to the emir’s palace to thank the people of the emirate for their support of his election in 2019 and to ask for prayers for his reelection campaign.
He guaranteed the populace that if re-elected, he would build on the accomplishments of his first term.
