The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has expressed his willingness to take action to resolve the ongoing Fulani crises in Nigeria, with the goal of finding a lasting solution with Federal Government support.
According to The PUNCH, during a meeting on Tuesday at his palace with the leadership of the Fulani group, Tapital Pulaku Njode Jam Nigeria, Sanusi emphasized the urgency for the government to establish a permanent resolution to the challenges faced by the Fulani community across the country.
Sanusi stated, “But this can be done only if the Federal Government will give me full support to achieve my mission because they have the might and what it takes to make my strategy work, while I will provide the ideas and the methodologies of how to go about it.”
He acknowledged the severe hardships endured by Fulanis, including widespread attacks, isolation, killings, and cattle rustling, and noted that these issues have affected them nationwide.
He further remarked, “No doubt, Fulanis in Nigeria have suffered heavy attacks, isolation, killing and destruction and the rustling of their cows, these rejections indeed were carried all across the country, and something needs to be done to arrest the situation.”
Sanusi also recognized that while some among the Fulanis have contributed to the negative perceptions, it is crucial to address the broader issues impacting the community.
He added, “However, it is not untrue that there are some bad eggs amongst the Fulanis who have thrown the good names of the people into the trash and subjected them to what they are suffering today.”
He expressed his readiness to collaborate with the government to bring peace and prosperity to the Fulani people and other Nigerians, stating, “This is the time that the government, together with us, will have a permanent solution to the crises, more specifically between them and the farmers and also where they are suspected to be carrying out other crimes.”
Sanusi concluded by offering his support to the government in achieving peace, saying, “I, on my own, am ready to help the government to achieve the desired mission of having peace and prosperity among the Fulanis and indeed, other Nigerians. Their suffering should stop. I believe together we will do it.”
In response, the leader of Tapital Pulaku Njode Jam Nigeria, Madibo Jada, expressed the group’s allegiance to Emir Sanusi, recognizing his leadership role, which was established long ago by the Lamido of Adamawa.
Jada emphasized the group’s widespread membership, particularly in rural areas, saying, “Our members are mainly in the bushes, and if today I asked only the youth wing of our group to come here, this palace will be too small for us. We have members all across the 36 states of Nigeria.”
He expressed confidence in Sanusi’s ability to restore the Fulani community’s reputation and highlight their contributions to the nation’s socio-economic development.
