The Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 9 in Umuahia, Isaac Akinmoyede, has urged the government to create jobs for youths, create an environment that encourages investment, and combat vices like cultism.

He made the call after receiving a courtesy and advocacy visit from the Abia chapter of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices on Friday in his office.

Abia, Imo, and Ebonyi commands fall under Zone 9.

One of such favorable environments, in Akinmoyede’s opinion, is security.

He claimed that the police were making all effort possible to secure the society.

The police chief, who denounced the growing cult, claimed that it had spread from higher education institutions to secondary schools.

It is “truly a major headache,” said the former police commissioner for Plateau and Imo, because even artisans are now participating in cultism.

According to Akinmoyede, the surge in street cultism has always been a result of ongoing strikes and other situations that prevent students from attending class.

Policing is not an easy profession, but all that is needed is ongoing support from the general public and POCACOV to enable us to carry out our duties to the best of our abilities.

The AIG promised his support, saying, “And in whatever way I know I can contribute towards the growth of POCACOV, I will do so.” The AIG praised the group for doing a lot for the police and the community.

Prior to that, Usman Baba, the Inspector General of Police, was praised for establishing POCACOV by the delegation’s leader, Mrs. Adanma Odefa-Wachuku, the Abia Chairman of POCACOV.

Community policing, according to Odefa-Wachuku, is the present and the future of policing since “all the criminals, cultists, and other vice-committers come from families and communities.”

She claims that POCACOV and the police share the same goal in trying to stop the spread of cultism on the streets.

According to The News Agency of Nigeria, POCACOV is a community-driven program of the Nigeria Police to raise awareness of the risks of cultism and other vices among various stakeholders.
