The Enugu State High Court under the jurisdiction of Justice C.I Nwobodo has issued a warning to the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kanayo Uzuegbu, indicating a potential jail sentence for alleged contempt of court.
The court’s action, outlined in a Form Order 48 dated May 23, 2024, stems from purported disobedience to a court order. The application was filed by Mrs. Theresa Nnulika Chuba, represented by her attorney, Mr. Oboli Fred Esq.
The Enugu State Commissioner of Police is required to adhere to the court’s directives regarding orders issued in suits No. E/879/2022 and E/301/2024. Failure to comply may lead to a contempt of court charge.
The dispute at hand involves a land matter where the court ruled in favor of the plaintiff. However, some parties allegedly sought police intervention to prevent the execution of the court’s decision.
The contempt proceedings aim to halt any further harassment or intimidation of the plaintiffs by the police. The Enugu State Commissioner of Police has yet to respond to the summons.
